Material sets the tone before anyone reads the words
Brushed aluminum reads modern and neutral and suits almost any brand. Brass and bronze read established and traditional - the default for law firms and financial offices. Polished acrylic reads clean and contemporary and is the most cost-effective route to real dimension. Painted PVC gives you any colour in the deck at the lowest cost, though it will not carry a metallic finish. The material choice communicates more than the typeface does.
Why dimension beats flat
A flat printed panel and a dimensional letter set can carry identical artwork and land completely differently. Letters mounted on standoffs cast a shadow that changes through the day, which is what makes a lobby sign read as permanent and considered rather than temporary. For a reception wall, the depth of the letter matters more to the impression than the size of the logo.
Backlit lobby signs and the 1-inch rule
Halo lighting needs somewhere to put the LEDs. As a working rule, a letter needs about an inch of stroke thickness to house the modules and diffuse evenly - which means a thin, elegant script logo often cannot be backlit as drawn without modification. This is the single most common surprise in a lobby sign project, and it is much cheaper to solve at the design stage than after fabrication.
Start at construction rough-in, not at move-in
If a backlit sign is planned while the wall is still open, the electrical lands exactly where it should and the install is clean. If it is planned after the space is finished, you are looking at surface raceway, patching and repaint. Bring the sign into the conversation at rough-in and the same sign costs less and looks better.
Installing without damaging a finished space
A finished lobby is an unforgiving place to work. We template the layout, confirm it on the wall with the client before a single hole is drilled, and use mounting appropriate to the substrate - glass, stone, drywall and wood panel each need a different approach. This is the same care we brought to the removal and reinstall work for Wolf Properties, where the existing facade had to come through it clean.
